Sarah Elise Thompson
Sarah Elise Thompson (b 1996) is an upcoming Australian composer and producer, based in Sydney. Her music has been performed Australia wide, in the US and in Europe, and premiered in the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre and Carnegie Hall.
Recent commissions include The Song Company, Ensemble Offspring, Plexus Collective, Australian Youth Orchestra, Gondwana Choirs, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Modern Music Ensemble, Kupka’s Piano, Nimbus Trio, the Briar String Quartet, and bass trombonist Rhys Oldham.
Sarah studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Hons). She studied with composer Gerard Brophy.
In 2016, Sarah co-founded the Sydney based all-female composer collective lost + sound with composers Alexis Weaver, Josephine Macken and Mimi Kind.
Sarah is a pianist in the new music ensemble SPIRAL - a 7 piece composer/performer collective based in Sydney. She has previously been invited to perform at Extended Play - a 12-hour new music festival at City Recital Hall, Sydney, and at Backstage Music.
In 2020, Sarah has been commissioned to write new works for the Bowral Autumn Music Festival, for countertenor Max Riebl and his upcoming tour ‘Bach To The Future’, as well as for the Los Angeles based violinist Nicholas Bentz. She is also in the process of recording her first album.
